Travel to South Africa and help make a difference in the lives of many underprivileged children in this community program. This program is located 45 minutes away from the beautiful city of Cape Town. It aims to provide the children in local townships with a safe, fun and creative educational environment.
Overview of the tasks and time commitment needed from the participant.
In South Africa students have to obtain a certain academic level in order to be able to attend formal school you will be helping the children we work with to reach this standard. A good level of English will open up a variety of possibilities for the children we work with. You will be involved in helping to organize and run outdoor games/activities, arts and crafts lessons, story telling, music and drama lessons as well as assisting with homework.
Health and safety (site specific health and safety information).
A change of environment, climate, food and lifestyle often results in minor, and occasionally more serious, illness. Please inform staff if you feel unwell at any time. The nearest emergency medical facilities located approximately 15km away. Staff are First Aid qualified and health and safety briefings are given to all volunteers when they arrive.
Orientation and Training (supervision and preparation the participant will receive).
Staff in the field will provide training on the skills required, but you may benefit from learning more about local history, culture and customs before you travel.
Field staff advise that you enter the country using a volunteer visa. For most nationalities this must be arranged in advance. Check with immigration authorities of the countries you intend to visit.
